1. Click on START (lower left corner of your screen)

2. Mouse over "Settings" (near the bottom)

3. Click on CONTROL PANEL

4. Click on REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE OPTIONS

5. Click on the tab labeled LANGUAGES

6. Click on DETAILS

7. Click on ADD

8. Leave the "Input Language" alone! It should say "English (United States)"

9. Go to "Keyboard Layout / IME" and scroll down and click "United States-International"

10. Click OK and Reboot

To get Umlauts, first click the quote key (") and then the letter you want

To get Ess-Zet hold down CTL and ALT and hit the letter "S"

To get regular quotes just hit a space after you hit the quotes key.

Note: don't try to do the "German" keyboard -- it's not worth the trouble!!
